LOCK HAVEN AREA YMCA OFFERS A.W.A.Y. PROGRAM TO FULL FACILITY MEMBERS
“THE NATIONWIDE VISITING MEMBER PROGRAM AMONG U.S. YMCAs”
The A.W.A.Y. Program is based on a YMCA membership philosophy that says: When a person enrolls in a YMCA, he/she becomes a member of a nationwide association of people that helps build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Therefore, when away from home on business or vacation, each member will be warmly welcomed by all other participating YMCAs in the United States.
Because each YMCA is autonomous, participation in the A.W.A.Y. Program and policies on use of equipment, facilities, services and programs may vary from YMCA to YMCA. Staff and volunteers of each YMCA that opts to participate in the A.W.A.Y. Program develop their own restrictions. However, many participating YMCAs have no restrictions on visiting YMCA members.
Typically, any restrictions that do exist are designed to: limit the number of uses allowed to visiting members in a given month or year; designate certain hours in the day when the facility will be open to visiting members; or outline a nominal fee for visiting members.
The Lock Haven Area YMCA strongly recommends that members who are planning to visit another YMCA to call the YMCA in advance for policies regarding their visit.
To find a YMCA in an area you plan to visit, call 800-872-9622 or use the “Find Your YMCA” tool at www.ymca.net, the Web site of YMCA of the USA, the national resource office for this country’s more than 2,500 YMCAs.
Starting January 1st, 2005, all Lock Haven Area YMCA Full Facility Membership cards will have an A.W.A.Y. sticker, which signifies that you are a member of a YMCA that is taking part in this program.
Thank you.
