The Lock Haven Area YMCA offers a wide range of swimming lessons, classes, and aquatics programs for all ages. Membership at the YMCA includes use of the pool during open swimming and lap swimming times at no additional cost.
Open to all youth 5-18 years of age who are able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) with a recognizable swimming stroke. Our program is designed to teach the fundamentals and advanced levels of competitive swimming. We strive to develop a sense of team spirit, sportsmanship, fair play, and fitness habits that will last a lifetime. The Lock Haven YMCA Loggerheads season runs from October to March.
Y Swim Lesson curriculum is based on a continuum that focuses on a skill-based progression that builds confidence and supports swimming skills. There are three phases within the continuum, beginning with Swim Starters (children 6-36 months), then Swim Basics (children ages 3-12 years) and Swim Strokes (school-ages children 5-12 years). Each phase is broken into specific stages that are designed specifically for that age group on a cognitive and social ability.
Program enhancements include:ease at time of registration, improved curriculum focusing on skills-based instruction with an emphasis on personal safety, tools and resources to support families at home.

STAGE 1: WATER ACCLIMATION
Sudents develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit the pool.
STAGE 2: WATER MOVEMENT
Sudents focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water.
STAGE 3: WATER STAMINA
Students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance. Rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action are introduced.

SWIM STROKES: Youth * 40 Minute Classes
STAGE 4 STROKE INTRODUCTION
Students develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water.
STAGE 5 STROKE DEVELOPMENT
Students are introduced to breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke.
STAGE 6 STROKE MECHANICS
Students focus on stroke technique on all major competitive strokes.

At the Y, we provide the opportunity to learn diving techniques, equipment, usage, as well as explore life underwater through our Scuba programs. The Lock Haven YMCA and Sunken Treasure SCUBA Center is offering scuba classes that will teach you the necessary skills to become an open water certified SCUBA diver. The course consists of six (6) classes at the Lock Haven Area YMCA Pool: an additional four (4) open water (non pool) training dives are required for certification. Must be able to swim, must be at least 12 years of age or older (those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent), class is limited to 8 students.

- Additional cost of $200-$300, for the purchase of your own mask, fins, boots, and snorkel.
These sessions provide an opportunity for beginning, intermediate, and advanced paddlers to practice skill development and safety techniques within the controlled environment of an indoor pool. Pool sessions are for individual practice, and do not include instruction; however, there are always folks there willing to help out if you're working on your roll, need some pointers, or just someone to spot you. Be sure to register in advance and bring a properly sized and outfitted kayak, paddle, PFD, skirt, and helmet.

Lifeguard Certification Course is designed to give particpants the skills and knowledge needed to be lifeguards in pools and aquatic environments. This comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to guard, anticpate, and prevent problems and to take action to help those in need. Paraticpants must pass a swim test on the first day of class inorder to remain registered. 100% class attendance and particiaption! 15 years of age or older may become certified.

ADULT AQUATICS GROUP FITNESS
We offer a variety of classes to accommodate your fitness needs, from easing arthritis and fibromyalgia pain to full-body workouts.
Aquasize: M/W 7 p.m.
This high-intensity class combines a cardiovascular and muscle workout using water resistance to build strength and tone muscles. Participants will burn major calories with this challenging workout.
Twinges in the Hinges (traditional): M/T/Th 9 a.m.
If you are looking for a gentle, low-impact workout or you suffer from arthritis pain, an injury, or soreness from fibromyalgia, this class is for you! These pool workouts are developed to help you build cardiovascular and muscle endurance while stretching the muscles and working the joints.
Twinges in the Hinges (dynamic): M/W/F 1 p.m.
This class applies the same principles as the traditional Twinges class but with a workout that changes in nearly every class. The dynamic class is higher in intensity than the traditional class but will feel like a lower intensity water aerobics class.
